Park
Black Moshannon State Park encompasses 3,394 acres of unique forests and wetlands in Rush Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, 9 miles east of Philipsburg along PA Route 504 atop the Allegheny Front, surrounded by over 43,000 acres of Moshannon State Forest.
Centered on the 250-acre Black Moshannon Lake—named for its tea-colored waters stained by tannins from sphagnum bogs called "moose stream" by Native Americans—it protects Pennsylvania's largest reconstituted bog ecosystem with rare carnivorous plants, orchids, and northern species.
Recreation includes boating, swimming, fishing, hiking and biking trails like the Bog Trail, camping, hunting, birdwatching for 175 species, and winter activities in a remote, wild setting open year-round.
