Managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation since 1893, it features 22 hills peaking at Great Blue Hill's 635-foot summit with panoramic metropolitan views, plus 125 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and the challenging 9-mile Skyline Trail.
The diverse landscape includes forests, marshes, swamps, meadows, an Atlantic white cedar bog, Houghton's Pond for swimming, rock climbing quarries, the historic Blue Hills Weather Observatory, and wildlife like timber rattlesnakes, copperheads, deer, coyotes, and over 100 bird species.
