Park
Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park covers 856 acres in the northwest corner of Perry County, eastern Kentucky, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest foothills along the 1,230-acre Buckhorn Lake—a reservoir created in 1961 by damming the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River for flood control.
Named after a legendary buck's antler found at a local salt lick, the park offers excellent fishing for muskie, bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish, plus boating, canoeing, swimming at the beach, a marina, restaurant, mini-golf, basketball, shuffleboard, and a playground.
Guests stay in a 36-room lodge with lake views, two- and three-bedroom cottages, or campground sites, while trails like the 1.5-mile Moonshiner's Hollow Interpretive Trail and tougher Leatherwood Trail reveal local geology, flora, fauna, and moonshining history amid abundant wildlife.
