The Charles W. Morgan is the last surviving wooden whaling ship in the world, built in 1841 in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
It completed 37 voyages over an 80-year career, traveling the globe hunting whales for oil and whalebone used widely in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The ship typically carried a crew of about 35 sailors from diverse backgrounds and was known for its durability, surviving Arctic ice, storms, and dramatic events on its many voyages.
After retiring from active whaling in 1921, it changed ownership a few times until it was acquired by Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut in 1941. The ship underwent extensive restoration, including a major 2010 project, and now serves as a museum exhibit in Mystic, Connecticut.
