Chatfield State Park is a large Colorado state park located southwest of Denver near Littleton, centered on the 1,350–1,400‑acre Chatfield Reservoir along the South Platte River.
The lake was created in the early 1970s as part of a flood‑control project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the surrounding land was later developed into a state‑run recreation area that opened to the public in the mid‑1970s.
The park offers a mix of water and land activities, with boating, fishing, swimming, water‑skiing, jet‑skiing, and paddle‑sports on the reservoir, plus a swim beach and a full‑service marina with boat rentals and slip storage. It also includes more than 25 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, a large off‑leash dog area, hot‑air‑balloon launches.
A model‑airplane field, and a modern campground with around 190 campsites and group‑camp facilities, making it one of the most heavily visited state parks in Colorado.
