The Coconino National Forest in northern Arizona spans about 1.85 million acres and features an exceptionally diverse landscape ranging from desert lowlands and red rock canyons near Sedona to vast ponderosa pine forests and alpine tundra atop the San Francisco Peaks, including Humphreys Peak, Arizona’s highest point at 12,633 feet.
It was established in 1898 and named after the Coconino people, containing several distinct districts: Flagstaff, Mogollon Rim, and Red Rock, each with unique geological and ecological characteristics.
