It protects the largest remaining freshwater marsh on the middle Charles River, featuring boardwalk trails like the Blue Heron Trail through wetlands, Kendrick Pond for canoeing and fishing, and over 100 bird species for wildlife viewing. Visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and scenic eskers and drumlins, with remnants of historic water systems from its origins as flooded marshland in the 1890s.
