It opened on June 19, 1990, developed by Circus Circus Enterprises with design inspiration taken from European castles, especially Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle. The property spans about 50 acres and features a 28-story hotel with 3,981 rooms, a large 92,389-square-foot casino, and numerous restaurants.
This resort was once the largest hotel in the world before being surpassed in 1993 by the MGM Grand. Excalibur offers family-friendly entertainment including an iconic jousting dinner show in a 900-seat theater, medieval-themed arcades, and motion simulator rides.
Its design includes stone turrets, a moat, and a drawbridge to enhance the castle theme, but room interiors were remodeled to be more contemporary while keeping the overall medieval experience. The hotel is owned by Vici Properties and operated by MGM Resorts International, and it is known as a budget-friendly option compared to other Strip resorts.
