Park
Gloss Mountain State Park is a 640-acre day-use park in Major County near Fairview, Oklahoma, USA, showcasing dramatic mesa formations of red shale, siltstone, and sparkling selenite gypsum in the Glass Mountains that shimmer like glass in sunlight.
Established in 1977 through state and federal funding and opened in 1997 via partnership with local Fairview residents who maintain facilities, it features steep stair trails to the Cathedral Mountain summit offering 360-degree panoramic views of plains, colorful rock layers, and distant horizons, plus a nature trail, picnic pavilions, tables, grills, restrooms, and drinking water.
Free from sunrise to sunset with no camping, it's ideal for short hikes (watch for rattlesnakes and steep drops), photography of unique geology and wildlife like hawks, eagles, lizards, and birds, picnicking, and exploring nearby crystal digging at Great Salt Plains or Oklahoma's Painted Desert.
