Golden State Heritage Site is a preserved 19th-century ghost town in Josephine County, southern Oregon, USA, managed by Oregon State Parks as the state's only former mining community under their care, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2002.
Once home to about 100 residents around 1890 after evolving from an 1850s mining camp, it stood out with two churches and no central saloons, plus large orchards by founding families, serving as a hub for remote miners near Coyote Creek.
Acquired by Josephine County in 1968 and expanded by OPRD purchases through 2006, visitors can now explore four remaining structures—a church rebuilt in 1950, a former residence, a shed, and the old post office/store—perched above the historic valley, offering a free, year-round day-use glimpse into mining-era life amid peaceful woods, though past vandalism prompts respect for the site.
