Casino/Hotel
Hotel Nevada & Gambling Hall is Nevada's oldest hotel-casino, opened on July 7, 1929, at 501 Aultman Street in downtown Ely as the state's first fireproof building with 67 rooms and 2,929 sq ft of gaming space. Promoted by businessman E.R. Miller to boost local cement sales, it hosted celebrities like Ingrid Bergman, Gary Cooper, and Stephen King, added legal gambling in 1931, and endured economic hardships including a 1983 IRS casino shutdown over back taxes. Now owned by the Gaughan family since 2014, it features slot machines, three blackjack tables, a poker table, a sportsbook, and a restaurant, remaining Ely's tallest building and a historic landmark near Great Basin National Park.
