Park
Jackson Lake State Park is a Colorado state park of about 3,300+ acres near Orchard in northeastern Morgan County, centered on the 2,400–2,700‑acre Jackson Reservoir on the high plains.
The reservoir was built in the early 1900s to store water from the South Platte River for irrigation and later became a major recreation hub, with the state taking over management in the 1960s. The park is known for its warm‑water, sandy‑bottomed lake that offers boating, jet skiing, water skiing, sailing, fishing, and swimming, along with a full‑service marina, sandy beaches, and a visitor center with exhibits and programs.
It features a large campground with over 230–250 sites, including RV and tent options with electric hookups, plus picnic areas, multi‑use trails, an off‑highway‑vehicle area, and extensive wildlife viewing, and it has been designated as an International Dark Sky Park, making it a popular spot for stargazing as well as water‑oriented recreation.
