Park
Jenny Wiley State Resort Park spans 2,871 acres in Floyd County, eastern Kentucky near Prestonsburg, centered on the 1,100-acre Dewey Lake created in 1951 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control.
Originally Dewey Lake State Park when opened in 1954, it was renamed for pioneer Virginia "Jenny" Wiley, who survived 11 months of Native American captivity in 1789 after her family's massacre, with the park established as a resort area in 1962 featuring May Lodge with 49 rooms, rental cottages, a restaurant using local produce, campground, and amphitheater hosting Broadway-style shows.
Visitors enjoy boating, fishing for record tiger muskie and bass, an Olympic-size swimming pool, hiking trails through moist Appalachian forests of maples, pawpaws, and tulip poplars, plus ongoing $7 million renovations to the lodge through summer 2026 while maintaining access to archery, picnicking, and events amid scenic mountain wilderness.
