Park and Garden
JFK Plaza, commonly known as Love Park, is a famous public park in Philadelphia located across from City Hall and at the visual end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Designed by city planner Edmund Bacon and architect Vincent Kling, the park was built in 1965 above an underground parking garage and dedicated in 1967 to President John F. Kennedy. It is best known for housing the iconic LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana, first installed for the 1976 Bicentennial and permanently placed in 1978 thanks to a local art commission chairman.
Love Park underwent a significant renovation from 2016 to 2018 that transformed the space into a greener, more welcoming environment with lawns, gardens, stormwater basins, new café seating, and recreational areas while preserving the view of City Hall.
The plaza also has cultural significance as a former popular skateboarding spot and hosts various public events and activities, making it a vibrant civic center and symbol of Philly's spirit.
