Park
John D. MacArthur Beach State Park is a scenic barrier‑island state park on the Atlantic coast in North Palm Beach, Florida, and it is the only state park in Palm Beach County.
The park covers around 300–400 acres of land and submerged waters, including a long stretch of soft‑sand beach, tropical and coastal hammock forest, and mangrove wetlands along Lake Worth Lagoon. It is named after philanthropist John D. MacArthur, whose foundation donated part of the land to create a public nature preserve after biologists recognized it as an ecologically rich “island in time” reflecting the subtropical coastal habitat that once covered much of southeast Florida.
Visitors can swim, sunbathe, snorkel, kayak, fish, and walk nature trails or a long boardwalk over the mangrove‑lined estuary, while the on‑site nature center offers exhibits about local plants, animals, and Native American history. The park also serves as an important nesting site for sea turtles from May through August and supports abundant coastal wildlife, making it both a quiet beach destination and a living outdoor classroom.
