Park
Kingdom Come State Park encompasses 1,283 acres atop Pine Mountain in Harlan County, eastern Kentucky, at 2,700 feet elevation—making it the state's highest park—near Cumberland along the Kentucky-Virginia border.
Named for John Fox Jr.'s 1903 Civil War novel The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come, it opened in 1961 and features dramatic rock formations like Raven Rock—a 290-foot leaning limestone monolith—and Log Rock, a natural sandstone bridge, plus a 3.5-acre mountain lake, Cave Amphitheater with bat habitats, and a state nature preserve protecting endangered Indiana bats.
Visitors enjoy hiking trails, scenic overlooks with valley views, primitive campsites, picnic areas, mini-golf, pedal boat rentals, fishing for bass, crappie, and trout, and access to the Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail amid Appalachian wilderness.
