Park
Lake Alma State Park covers 292 acres in the rugged unglaciated hill country of Jackson and Vinton Counties, southern Ohio, featuring a quiet 60-acre lake and a gentle creek winding through a wooded valley.
Originally built in 1903 as a private amusement park by coal operator C.K. Davis with a dance pavilion, outdoor theater, and merry-go-round, it became Wellston's municipal water supply by 1910 before opening as a state park leased to ODNR.
Visitors enjoy boating, fishing for bluegill and bass, two beaches with changing rooms and concessions, a pet swim area, hiking trails, a paved bike path, playground, seven picnic areas with shelters, 66-site campground, and winter ice skating or fishing amid second-growth oak forests, wildflowers, ferns, wild turkeys, woodpeckers, and owls.
