Park
Leasburg Dam State Park, a 293-acre site along the Rio Grande in southern New Mexico about 15 miles north of Las Cruces near Radium Springs, centers on the historic Leasburg Dam built in 1908 as one of the state's first diversion structures to irrigate Mesilla Valley farmland.
Opened in 1971, it offers 22 campsites across three loops (Cholla, Cactus Patch, Greasewood) with picnic shelters, 30-amp electric, restrooms, showers, and a dump station, plus day-use beaches for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for catfish and bass from mid-March to mid-October.
Visitors enjoy over 2 miles of easy, interconnecting hiking and biking trails including the Cactus Garden Trail, birdwatching, night sky programs at the park observatory, and proximity to historic sites like Fort Selden and El Camino Real.
