Long Key State Park

Long Key State Park, Florida, United States

Park

Long Key State Park covers 965 acres across two islands in the Florida Keys at mile marker 67.5 on the Overseas Highway near Layton, once called Cayo Víbora by Spanish explorers for its snake-like shape and later site of Henry Flagler's luxurious Long Key Fishing Camp until the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane destroyed it.

Today it offers tranquil access to mangrove shores, tidal flats, and clear shallow waters ideal for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking along natural lagoons and the Atlantic shoreline, birdwatching for wading birds and pigeons, and hiking the easy 1.1-mile Golden Orb Trail through tropical hammock or the bayside Layton Trail.

Boardwalks through dense mangroves provide intimate views of the park's lush coastal ecosystems. Open daily from 8 a.m. to sundown, it features picnic areas, restrooms, kayak rentals, flats fishing, and 60 full-facility campsites.
