Mancos State Park is a compact Colorado state park of about 550 acres located about 5 miles north of the town of Mancos, nestled at around 7,800 feet elevation at the northwestern foot of the La Plata Mountains, roughly equidistant between Cortez and Durango.
The park centers on the 216–225‑acre Jackson Gulch Reservoir, a small mountain lake created by Jackson Gulch Dam in 1948 to supply drinking water for Mesa Verde and the surrounding area, with the state park added in 1987. Visitors enjoy fishing year‑round for trout and yellow perch, wakeless boating with kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards, plus swimming, hiking, and wildlife viewing in a forested, high‑plateau setting.
The park has two campgrounds with about 32 standard sites and two yurts, more than 5 miles of trails, and serves as a convenient base camp for exploring nearby Mesa Verde National Park, the San Juan Skyway, and the San Juan Mountains.
