Casino
Mermaids Casino was a small, slots-and-video-poker-only venue on the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, spanning 7,000 square feet and famous for cheap eats like deep-fried Oreos, Twinkies, and hot dogs. Opened in 1999 by Herb Pastor with a tropical theme after a $6 million renovation, it evolved from the 1956 Silver Palace—the first two-story casino in Vegas with Southern Nevada's initial escalator—and cycled through names like Carousel, Gambler's Hall of Fame, Sundance West, and Sassy Sally's. Owned briefly by Pastor's son before sale to Derek and Greg Stevens in 2016, it closed on June 27 alongside La Bayou and Glitter Gulch, then was demolished in 2017 for the Circa Resort & Casino.
