Park
Miamisburg Mound Park in Miamisburg, Ohio, features the largest conical burial mound in the eastern United States, standing 65 feet tall with an 800-foot circumference and containing 54,000 cubic yards of earth built by the Adena culture between 800 B.C. and A.D. 100 atop a 100-foot bluff overlooking the Great Miami River.
Excavated in 1869 revealing layered construction with clay-covered skeletons, ceremonial pipes, and possible stone facing, it was preserved by landowner John Treon, donated by Charles Kettering in 1929 to Ohio History Connection, and enhanced with 116 steps by the Civilian Conservation Corps for summit views.
This 37-acre National Register site open daily offers picnicking, a playground, grills, shelters, and short hikes amid scenic valley panoramas with no entrance fee.
