Park
Monroe State Forest is a roughly 3,750–4,300‑acre state forest in the towns of Monroe and Florida in far northwestern Massachusetts, bordering Vermont, managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The forest covers rugged terrain of steep mountains and deep river valleys, including Spruce Mountain and the Deerfield River gorge, with streams that drop sharply over boulders and form many small waterfalls and pools. Visitors can hike or ride horses along several miles of trails, hunt, and fish in native brook‑trout waters, and enjoy panoramic views from lookout points such as Raycroft Lookout, all within a mixed‑use woodland that preserves both 19th‑century farm remnants and sizable tracts of old‑growth forest.
