Park
Navajo State Park is a Colorado state park on the north shore of Navajo Lake, a 15,000‑acre reservoir on the San Juan River that stretches about 20 miles south into New Mexico near the town of Arboles, roughly 35 miles southwest of Pagosa Springs.
The park sits in a rugged, high‑desert and canyon‑like landscape with flat‑topped mesas, rolling hills, and steep‑sided valleys, often described as Colorado’s “answer to Lake Powell.” Visitors enjoy extensive water recreation, including boating, houseboating, sailing, waterskiing, fishing, and swimming, with a full‑service marina, docks, and a 27‑hole golf course integrated into the park.
The area is also popular for camping, wildlife viewing, and experiencing layers of history, from ancient Puebloan and later Ute and Navajo use to the construction of Navajo Dam in the 1960s to supply irrigation water for the Navajo Nation.
