Tourist Attraction
Nelson Ghost Town, located about 45 minutes south of Las Vegas in Eldorado Canyon, Nevada, was founded in 1861 as a gold and silver mining town centered around the famous Techatticup Mine.
Known for its wild, lawless past with frequent violence and mining disputes, Nelson was home to miners, Civil War deserters, and outlaws. Mining thrived until the 1940s, after which the town was largely abandoned. In 1994, Tony and Bobbie Werly purchased and began restoring the area, opening the mine for tours and preserving historic buildings.
Today, Nelson serves as a popular tourist attraction showcasing Nevada’s mining heritage and offers guided tours, photography, and a glimpse into the rugged Old West.
