Botanical Garden
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was established in 1893 as a gift from steel magnate Henry Phipps Jr. to the city.
Designed by the renowned greenhouse firm Lord & Burnham, the Victorian-style glasshouse initially featured nine display rooms showcasing over 6,000 exotic plants from the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Over time, it expanded to include the South Conservatory, Desert Room, and aquatic gardens, among other spaces. The conservatory has hosted famous flower shows and exhibits, making it a vibrant destination for both education and recreation.
Today, it encompasses 15 acres, including the historic glasshouse and outdoor gardens, and continues to serve as a center for plant conservation, sustainability, and public enjoyment, drawing visitors to experience nature’s beauty and learn about diverse plant species.
