Named for the historic Native American portage path linking the Cuyahoga River to Lake Erie and the Tuscarawas River to the Ohio River, these feeder reservoirs for the Ohio & Erie Canal—abandoned in 1913—now thrive with boating including sailing, jet skiing, and water skiing, plus swimming beaches, prime fishing for largemouth bass, walleye, muskie, yellow perch, and catfish.
Wetlands draw waterfowl and shorebirds for hunting or observation, complemented by winter pursuits like ice skating, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and an astronomy observatory operated by the Akron Astronomy Club.
