Park
Prophetstown State Park, Indiana's newest state park established in 2004 near Battle Ground just northeast of Lafayette, spans nearly 2,000 acres where the Tippecanoe and Wabash Rivers meet, commemorating the historic Native American village founded in 1808 by Shawnee leaders Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa (the Prophet).
The site of the pivotal 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe—where Governor William Henry Harrison's forces defeated tribal warriors, leading to the village's destruction—now features living history exhibits including a reconstructed Shawnee village with council house and medicine lodge, plus a 1920s farmstead at the Museum at Prophetstown.
Visitors explore expansive tallgrass prairies, native wildflower fields, restored fens and wetlands, 2.75 miles of hiking trails, 2.4 miles of paved biking paths, an aquatic center with lazy river and slides, fishing, birdwatching, a modern 110-site campground, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and interpretive programs amid a landscape shaped by glaciers, fire, and indigenous stewardship.
