Park
Punderson State Park spans 741 acres in Geauga County's glaciated plateau near Newbury, northeastern Ohio, featuring Ohio's largest and deepest natural kettle lake at 150 acres, formed when ancient glacial ice melted around 14,000 years ago.
Named for early settler Lemuel Punderson, the site evolved from 1800s castle ruins and summer cottages to a Tudor-style haunted manor house lodge built in 1929, with the state acquiring the land in 1948 for public use. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing for bass, trout, bluegill, and crappie, swimming, hiking wooded trails, an 18-hole golf course, disc golf, family cottages, scenic campground, winter sledding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and wildlife viewing of eagles, beavers, herons, deer, and owls.
