Park
Ridgway State Park is a roughly 3,200‑acre Colorado state park located just north of the town of Ridgway in the Uncompahgre River Valley, at the foot of the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado.
The park’s centerpiece is a 5‑mile‑long reservoir of about 1,030 surface acres, impounded by Ridgway Dam on the Uncompahgre River, which draws boaters, anglers, paddlers, and swimmers into a dramatic mountain setting. The reservoir is divided among three main sections—Dutch Charlie, Pa‑Co‑Chu‑Puk, and Dallas Creek—each offering water access plus 15–16 miles of hiking and biking trails that wind through pinyon‑juniper woodland, shrublands, and riverside habitat.
The park supports a rich variety of wildlife, including deer, elk, black bears, marmots, and visiting bald eagles, and it provides a large campground with hundreds of sites, yurts, picnic areas, a marina, and a swim beach, making it a major year‑round recreation hub between Montrose and Ouray.
