Park
Rifle Gap State Park is a roughly 1,340‑acre Colorado state park located just north of the town of Rifle in Garfield County, centered on a 350–360‑acre reservoir created by Rifle Gap Dam on East Rifle Creek in the late 1960s.
The park sits at about 6,000 feet elevation on the edge of the White River Plateau near the Grand Hogback, with pinyon‑juniper woodlands and sagebrush shrublands giving way to a green, riparian fringe along the reservoir. Visitors enjoy boating, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, paddle sports, swimming at a west‑side beach, and fishing for species such as trout, pike, bass, and yellow perch, with the reservoir also supporting popular ice fishing and ice skating in winter.
The park offers a full‑service visitor center, about 89 campsites that are open year‑round, picnicking areas, and wildlife watching, making it a family‑friendly, water‑centric recreation area in the foothills of the Rockies.
