Established in 1964 and managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, it offers hiking on the blue-blazed Old Furnace Trail to Ross Cliffs overlook, mountain biking, rock climbing, hunting for deer and turkey, and birdwatching in mixed hardwoods, coniferous forests, and open marsh.

Access is via Ross Road or Squaw Rock Road with parking at the boat launch, though roads can be rough; the park is open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset with no entry fee.
