Named for Chief Shikellamy, a key 18th-century Oneida diplomat, this western section—established from former scout and rehab camp land opened publicly in 1960—features three stunning scenic overlooks, a one-mile nature trail through woods teeming with deer and songbirds, picnic pavilions and tables, plus free day-use access via County Line Road off US 15 or US 11.
Open sunrise to sunset (closed winters), it draws visitors for panoramic river views, hiking, and birdwatching without boating, camping, or marina facilities found in the park's separate Packers Island section.
