Park
South Fork State Recreation Area is a nearly 4,000‑acre state park in northeastern Nevada, about five miles south of Elko, centered on 1,650‑acre South Fork Reservoir with marshes, meadows, and rolling hills at roughly 5,200 feet elevation.
The park sits at the base of the Ruby Mountains and supports a wide range of wildlife including mule deer, badgers, beavers, and kit foxes, as well as abundant waterfowl and fish such as catfish, bass, and trophy trout. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, hunting, and ice fishing in winter, plus hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding along trails that run through juniper‑rich woodlands and along the river, with both primitive and developed camping available, including a 25‑site campground that has tables, grills, and restrooms with showers, all open year‑round and managed by the Nevada Division of State Parks.
