Spinney Mountain State Park is a Colorado state park in Park County’s South Park region, centered on the 2,500‑acre Spinney Mountain Reservoir at about 8,710 feet elevation along the Middle Fork of the South Platte River.
The reservoir was built in 1981 as the main storage source for the City of Aurora’s water supply, while recreation on the lake and surrounding land is managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife as a state park. The park is known especially for its Gold‑Medal trout fishing, with large cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout that draw anglers using fly‑fishing and artificial lures in a scenic setting backed by the Collegiate Peaks.
Visitors can also boat, sail, bird‑watch, and hunt in season, but the park is day‑use only, closed when the reservoir is iced over (roughly mid‑April to mid‑November), and does not allow camping within its boundaries.
