Squantz Pond State Park covers 172 acres along the southwestern shore of the 270-acre Squantz Pond in New Fairfield, Connecticut, near Candlewood Lake and bordered by Pootatuck State Forest.
Established in 1926 on a former farm and named for Chief Squantz of the Schaghticoke tribe, the park is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection with summer parking limited to 250 vehicles and online reservations required.
Visitors enjoy swimming in a designated beach area, fishing, scuba diving, motorized boating with rentals, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, and hiking trails through hemlock forests to rocky shores, though blue-green algae blooms occasionally close swimming and drownings prompted safety upgrades like expanded beaches and lifeguard views.
