Park
State Forest State Park is a vast Colorado state park of about 71,000 acres in Jackson and Larimer counties, east of Walden in the Medicine Bow Range of the northern Rockies, and it is the largest state park in Colorado.
The park features rugged high‑country landscapes with dense forests of lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce, and aspen, plus jagged peaks, alpine lakes, and river valleys, all shaped in part by an ongoing mountain‑pine‑beetle die‑off. Visitors can camp in developed sites and yurts, backpack on more than 90 miles of trails, fish in lakes and streams, hunt in season, and enjoy winter sports such as snowshoeing, cross‑country skiing, and snowmobiling.
The area is especially known for its large moose population—often called Colorado’s “moose viewing capital”—as well as bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, black bears, and other wildlife, making it a relatively quiet but wild alternative to nearby national parks.
