Talladega Superspeedway, located in Lincoln near Talladega, Alabama, is a 2.66-mile tri-oval superspeedway built in 1969. It is known as the longest and one of the fastest NASCAR oval tracks, featuring steep banking of 33 degrees in the turns, which makes for high speeds often surpassing 200 miles per hour.
The track was designed by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. to be longer and faster than Daytona International Speedway. The facility can seat around 80,000 spectators as of recent years, with space for many more in the large infield area. Besides the main oval, Talladega also has a 4-mile roval-style road course.
The track has a reputation for chaotic, high-energy racing and intense pack racing, often leading to major multi-car crashes known colloquially as "The Big One." It is also famous for its wild and festive infield party scene during race weekends. Talladega hosts two major NASCAR Cup Series races annually, along with other lower-tier NASCAR events, making it a centerpiece of stock car racing in the Southeastern United States.
The superspeedway's location near Interstate 20 provides convenient access for fans, and the entire complex covers about 3,000 acres, making it the largest NASCAR facility by size.
