The Mint Casino, Nevada, United States

Casino

The Mint Casino was a historic downtown Las Vegas hotel-casino on Fremont Street between First and Second Streets, opening in 1957 under Milton Prell with a mid-century modern design and iconic neon sign. It expanded by annexing the Birdcage Casino in 1959, added a 26-story tower in 1965 making it Nevada's second-tallest building at 290 feet, hosted the famous Mint 400 off-road race, and was featured in Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Sold to Del Webb in 1961 and later acquired by the Binions in 1988 for $36.5 million, it became Horseshoe West before declining and fully closing by 2009, with the site now part of Fremont Street redevelopment.
