Thompson’s Harbor State Park is a 5,109‑acre Michigan state park along about 7.5 miles of Lake Huron shoreline in Presque Isle County, roughly 24 miles north of Alpena and near Rogers City.
The park is mostly undeveloped, with a mix of second‑growth forest, sand dunes, marshes, limestone cobble beaches, and shallow lakes that create a rugged, quiet landscape suited to hikers, birdwatchers, and wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors can use about six miles of rustic trails for hiking, cross‑country skiing, and, in winter.
Snowshoeing, stay in a couple of year‑round rustic cabins, and enjoy sea kayaking, paddling, hunting, and stargazing in a designated dark‑sky preserve that also protects important habitat for the federally threatened dwarf lake iris and other species.
