Park
Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, near Palm Coast on Florida’s scenic A1A, is a 400-plus-acre coastal park known for its elegant formal gardens and rare coquina-rock shoreline along the Atlantic Ocean, set between the Matanzas River and the sea.
Once a private winter estate named for a relative of President George Washington and donated to the state in 1965, it now features shady oak hammocks, reflection pools, and flower-filled beds of azaleas, camellias, roses, and bird of paradise, plus short walking and biking trails, picnic areas, fishing spots on both river and ocean sides, and a visitor center in the former residence.
Visitors can stroll the gardens, explore the boulder-strewn coquina beach and its tidal pools at low tide, watch birds, dolphins, or even manatees along the Intracoastal Waterway, and enjoy year-round events for a small per-vehicle entrance fee.
