The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign is a famous landmark located at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, just south of the Las Vegas Strip, in the town of Paradise, Nevada.
Designed by Betty Willis in 1959 and built by Western Neon, it cost $4,000 to make and has become a symbol of the city’s vibrant entertainment culture. The 25-foot-tall sign features a stretched diamond shape with white neon circles representing silver dollars — a nod to Nevada's nickname as the "Silver State" — spelling out "Welcome," with "to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" beneath in bright retro lettering.
The back side, less often seen, reads "Drive Carefully, Come Back Soon." Bettie Willis never copyrighted the sign, considering it her gift to the city, allowing it to become widely reproduced on souvenirs and in media.
It marks the unofficial southern end of the Strip and has its own parking lot and crosswalk today, welcoming millions of visitors who pose for photos in front of this iconic retro roadside attraction. The sign is recognized worldwide and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, symbolizing the glitz and excitement of Las Vegas.
