Park
Willamette Mission State Park is a 1,300-acre riverside park in Marion County, Oregon, USA, located 8 miles north of Salem near Keizer and the Wheatland Ferry on the east bank of the Willamette River, easily reached from I-5 Exit 263.
This National Register of Historic Places site preserves the 1834 Methodist mission founded by Jason Lee—the first Euro-American settlement west of the Rockies after fur trade forts—destroyed by 1861 floods, with interpretive markers, a ghost mission outline, and the nation's largest black cottonwood tree (Oregon Heritage Tree) along Mission Lake oxbow.
Diverse landscapes of woodlands, wetlands, meadows, and farmland host nearly 15 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, horseback riding, birdwatching, disc golf, kayaking, canoeing, fishing docks, and group picnics amid abundant wildlife, all open year-round with a day-use fee.
