The current Second Renaissance Revival building, designed by Richards, McCarty and Bulford and opened in 1931, features the Frederick W. Schumacher Frieze depicting 68 artists and has undergone major expansions including the 2011 Center for Creativity and 2015 Margaret M. Walter Wing.

Its permanent collection highlights early 20th-century American and European modern art, Impressionism, Expressionism, folk art, glass, photography, and works by Columbus artists like Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, Elijah Pierce, and George Bellows, drawing over 250,000 visitors yearly for exhibitions and interactive programs.
