Museum
The Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum House Museum in Florence, Alabama, is the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building in the state and a prime example of his Usonian style.
Built in 1940 for newlyweds Stanley and Mildred Rosenbaum, the house was designed as an affordable, efficient home for middle-class families, featuring natural materials like cypress wood, brick, and glass, with a distinctive L-shaped layout and cantilevered roofs. Wright integrated innovations such as radiant heating in the concrete floors and built-in furniture and lighting.
The house initially had 1,540 square feet, but an addition in 1948 expanded it to accommodate the growing family while maintaining Wright’s design principles. The Rosenbaum family lived there until 1999, when it was donated to the city and restored, opening as a public museum in 2002.
The museum preserves much of the original architecture and some of Wright's custom-designed furniture, offering guided tours that highlight the architectural and historical significance of this uniquely American home.
