Park
Hampson Archeological Museum State Park, located in Wilson, Arkansas, is a five-acre state park dedicated to interpreting the history and culture of the Nodena people.
The park houses a nationally renowned archaeological collection from the Nodena site, a 15-acre palisaded village that flourished on a meander bend of the Mississippi River between A.D. 1400 and 1650. These artifacts, which include sophisticated pottery, tools, and ceremonial items, were meticulously excavated and documented by local landowner Dr. James K. Hampson and his family beginning in the 1920s.
The collection was donated to the state in 1957, leading to the park's establishment in 1961. Today, the park features a modern, 8,500-square-foot museum facility, completed in 2018, which professionally displays these findings to provide visitors with an immersive look at the daily life, social structure, religious practices, and artistry of this ancient civilization.
