Christ of the Ozarks is a monumental 67-foot-tall concrete statue of Jesus located near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, atop Magnetic Mountain.
Completed in 1966 and constructed entirely by hand, the statue weighs nearly two million pounds and stands on a foundation reinforced with 320 tons of concrete and steel, engineered to withstand strong winds including tornadoes. The statue’s arms span 65 feet in a crucifixion pose, and the face alone measures about 15 feet in length.
It was funded by the Elna M. Smith Foundation and sculpted by Emmet A. Sullivan as part of a larger complex called the “Sacred Projects,” which includes the Great Passion Play amphitheater, a Bible Museum, and more. Visible from up to 20 miles away, the statue serves as a spiritual landmark and popular attraction, though it has also sparked controversy over the years.
