Wildlife Refuge
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas is a 459-acre sanctuary founded in 1992 by Don, Hilda, and Tanya Jackson to provide lifetime homes for abused, abandoned, and neglected big cats such as lions, tigers, cougars, and other exotic species.
The refuge began when the Jackson family rescued a lion cub, Bum, and later took in more animals after encountering a breeder with dozens of big cats in poor conditions. Over the years, the sanctuary expanded its mission to rescue animals from private owners, roadside zoos, and law enforcement seizures, becoming one of the largest and most trusted big cat sanctuaries in North America.
The refuge features large, natural habitats, an on-site veterinary hospital, and educational programs aimed at ending the exotic animal trade. It is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and is a prominent conservation and animal welfare organization focused on compassion and care for these magnificent animals.
