State Park
Heyburn State Park in Idaho, established in 1908, is the oldest state park in the Pacific Northwest, covering around 5,744 acres of land and 2,332 acres of water.
The park includes three beautiful lakes—Chatcolet, Benewah, and Hidden Lakes—as well as part of the St. Joe River. It offers a wide range of recreational activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating, fishing, swimming, and bird watching. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, a popular 72-mile biking and hiking trail, runs directly through the park.
Visitors can explore forested trails, meadow landscapes, and water bodies rich with wildlife including deer, elk, bald eagles, and waterfowl. The Civilian Conservation Corps developed many park facilities during the 1930s, which remain in use today.
The park features campgrounds, cabins, and a marina with boat rentals, making it a year-round outdoor destination known for its serene lakefront views and diverse outdoor opportunities.
