Indian Springs State Park, Georgia, United States

Park

Indian Springs State Park near Flovilla and Jackson in middle Georgia, USA, spans 528 acres and ranks as one of the nation's oldest state parks, acquired from the Creek Indians via the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs and continuously operated by the state since.

Creek people used its mineral-rich springs—believed to heal ailments—for centuries, later drawing 19th-century resort crowds; visitors today sample the sulfur-tasting water inside a stone Spring House built by Civilian Conservation Corps workers during the Great Depression.

The park features a 105-acre McIntosh Lake, named for Creek chief William McIntosh who signed the controversial treaty, for fishing, boating, and swimming, plus Sandy Creek for wading, a 3/4-mile nature trail, a 3.25-mile multi-purpose path linking to Dauset Trails, mini-golf, picnicking, a playground, a seasonal museum on Creek and resort history, and stays in cottages or campsites.
